We are just sitting here thinking about the 2008 year and all the problems we have run into this year. Of course not all of it has been bad, but we have come across much more unnecessary
situations than normal. For example,
Asheville Framing went out to
Burnsville North Carolina to assist an
Asheville home builder with recovering a faulty construction project. The contractor quickly ran out of money after a few payments due to a past mistake... and in the end he ended up refusing to pay AFB almost $8,000. We had to contact the Florida developer to get this situation somewhat worked out, and after a battle and a bunch more work on our end, we ended up getting paid the majority (not all) of the money.
On another occasion in Arden the General Contractor constantly demanded that extra work be done, even yelling that it was "code" when it was not, without any mention of additional payment, not enough materials on the job and constantly gossiped and complained to our crew. One day praise would come, followed by complaint, followed by praise, and so on. It is very hard to work under these conditions. In Candler North Carolina, this couple tried to bring us in to finish off a log home that was never inspected and was evolving into a log mess. We demanded that we get a Buncombe County Building Inspector on the job, and we were fired the next day.
In another instance in
Fairview, Ben walked to the top level of a client's home and the
Asheville GC over the project was doing drugs with some of his workers. Ben walked away, and understood why the job was not going right. Every single payment from this Contractor came late. Agreements were constantly broken, and extra work ordered and not completely paid for. Out of town customers are hiring builders in Asheville like this, and then wonder why the project "messes up".
Of course there is always some tension when General Contractors are quick to order work and extremely slow to pay for it when finished. Properly scheduled payments make the world go round and when this is broken, all of us have problems. Some of us blame it on desperate tactics during this rough economy and market, while others believe it just shows you what type of "builders" or businessmen they are. Some builders drag out payment to our company just so they have "extra" money in their account. Thanks, lol. Some builders may be great to their clients, but terrible to their subcontractors and everyone else. We see this constantly. We even had to call the local Asheville Home Builders Association to see if we can get some type of help, mediation, or closure with some of these builders which are members of the Association like us; but were told to contact an Attorney.
Asheville Framing does its best to work with good
Asheville home builders, but every once in awhile we run into
Asheville Home Builders such as these. For information on
Asheville Framing's preferred home builders please contact us through our website at
